Share the Love with Vulnerable Seniors This Year

The Meals on Wheels network is once again one of the Subaru Share the Love Event partner charities. Over the past twelve years, Subaru and its retailers have donated more than $176 million to its charity partners and helped Meals on Wheels to deliver more than 2.3 million meals to seniors in need nationwide.

What has that meant in Sheboygan County?

In the seven years that Fresh Meals On Wheels of Sheboygan County has participated, we have received $31,000 from the Share the Love Event, which made it possible for us to subsidize the cost of more than 15,000 meals for senior, disabled and/or homebound Sheboygan County residents. We are so thankful!

What’s new this year?

This year, we partnered with the good folks at International Subaru in Sheboygan to raise awareness of the popular year-end sales and giving event, and drive support for Sheboygan County’s seniors through a special Stuff the Trunk campaign. Subaru customers, Meals On Wheels volunteers, and community members have been taking items such as crossword puzzle, word find and Sudoku books; large-print playing cards; and jigsaw puzzles, to International Subaru, 4120 N. Frontage Road, Sheboygan, to fill the trunk of a Subaru for FMOW meal recipients. These enrichment books and activities will be distributed to meal recipients during this long cold winter, while our community’s frailest residents remain quarantined at home, staying well. There is still time to donate items and help Stuff the Trunk. Items may be dropped off at Fresh Meals On Wheels in Sheboygan as well.

Why does Subaru support Meals on Wheels?

Too many seniors are struggling to stay independent and healthy. One in four seniors lives alone in isolation and one in seven seniors might not know from where their next meal is coming. This is simply unacceptable, which is why Fresh Meals On Wheels provides nutritious meals, friendly visits and safety checks to Sheboygan County seniors. This vital support keeps seniors in their own homes, where they want to be.

We’re incredibly grateful to Subaru and its retailers, including International Subaru, for supporting our organization and the seniors we serve. With that in mind, we thought you might want to learn a little bit more about the Subaru Share the Love Event.

How does the Share the Love Event work?

Now, through January 4, 2021, for every new Subaru vehicle purchased or leased, Subaru will donate $250 to the customer’s choice of participating charities.* Meals on Wheels is one of four national participating charities and has been since the inception of the event. Through this event, as a member of Meals on Wheels America, Fresh Meals On Wheels of Sheboygan County will receive a share of the donation from Subaru vehicles sold at participating Subaru Retailers.

I don’t need a car right now. How can I help?
